This is cultural pressure How much emotional suffering and misery has this pressure produced (especially in young people)? Why do I have to be better than others? By accepting that pressure you are loosing your freedom and autonomy, which is one of the most fundamental human needs. Through competition and comparison with others, a person destroys one�s autonomy and ruins his or hers emotional well being
